As there are many forms of Lord Ganesha, the temples in India are also named according to the incarnation of the God. Ashtavinayak is a popular temple located in Maharashtra state of India. 'Ashtavinayak' is a Sanskrit word which means eight Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is a Hindu deity and is known to bring happiness, learning and prosperity.

One of the most popular temples of Ashtavinayak is Shri Siddhivinayak. This temple has many distinguishing facts like it is the only Ganesja idol which has the trunk pointing to the right. This north facing temple is located on a small hillock. The temple is very well connected with a broad road which is believed to be built by Haripant Phadake, the general of Peshwa's. Many believes that people are the siants Shri Narayan Maharja of kedgaon and Shri Morya Gosavi were enlighten here. This one of the mots beautiful and one of the most visited temples of India. The sanctum of the temple is 10 feet wide and 15 feet high. The Siddhivinayak idol is 3 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide. It is believed that right sided trunk Ganesha is very strict. Pilgrims coming to temple always take pradakshina or one round around the temple. Another popular Ashtavinayak temple is Shri Mayureshwar. This is a beautiful temple built in black stone. Located in the heart of the village the temple is covered by four minarets which gives a look of mosque. The temple has very beautiful idol of Lord Ganesha riding a peacock like myureshwar. The trunk of the idol is terned to left. There are also two other idols of Buddhi and Siddhi. The temple is located 56 km from Pune. Large number of pilgrims visit the temple each year.

Shri Vighnahar is another temple of Ashtavinayak. One of the interesting history related to temple is that there was a demon called Vighnasur which was created by Indira, the King of Gods. The demon was created to destroy the prayer of King Abhinandan but it went on destroying religious acts and vedics and in order stop him Lord Ganesha came. This how the temple got its name as Shri Vighnahar. The temple is facing east side and the main hall of the temple is about 20 feet long. Like these temples the other temples of Ashtavinayak also carry different aspects.
