Krishna

Krishna is one of the most famous among the gods and goddesses in the Hindu religion. The tales about the life and tales of him when he was on Earth are recited and celebrated. The place where Krishna was born and spent his youth are the scared places. The places where he spent the rest of his earthly life are all considered the places of pilgrimage by the Hindus. Krishna had many followers and his teachings are all found in the Bhagavad Gita. This is one of the most religious books of the Hindu religions. Krishna was instrumental in the fight between the Kauravas and the Pandavas in the Mahabharata. The birth of Krishna is celebrated with much pomp and ceremony.

His birthday comes after the consultation with the lunar calendars and is known as Janmashtami. Krishna has much contribution in the Mahabharata. The role played by him as the charioteer of Arjun changed the entire course of the epic. The reference of Krishna has been found in many religious scriptures.

The Bhagavad Gita consists of the speech given by Krishna to Arjun in the battlefield in the Mahabharata. Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva in Mathura. It was prophesied that Krishna would be in great danger and so he was brought up by foster parents Yasoda and Nanda in Gokul. He grew up in Gokul and there are many tales about his childhood antics. Even in his youth there are stories about him romancing with all the young ladies. All the young ladies were enamored by his charm and the tunes played him. However it is believed by the followers of Krishna that his only interest was in Radha and so in most of the temples of Krishna, there is Radha too placed beside him. From his childhood days he has been defeating demons that made the lives hell for the sages and hermits. Krishna has destroyed many demons since a very young days.

In some of the texts it has been mentioned that Krishna had many wives, but Krishna was married to Rukmini. He lived with his family in Dwaraka in the state of Gujarat. It is believed that Krishna still resides in Dwaraka and Vrindavan. During Janmashtami it is believed he comes to the Earth to bless mankind. Krishna is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is a great warrior and a teacher. He has a brother Balarama and a sister Subhadra. Krishna has a dark complexion and on his forehead is a feather of a peacock. He has a flute with which he played tunes to impress the young women. These women are called Gopis. He played many pranks on them in his youth. The tunes played by Krishna were liked by all creatures.

All Hindus worship Krishna and there are many temples of Krishna in the country. The maximum number of temples of Krishna are in the city of Dwaraka and Mathura, where he had spent his lifetime. Another lore attached to Krishna is that he married Meerabai due to her utmost devotion shown towards him.
